My name is Marcus, and this is my home page.
I’m an assistant professor of mass communication at Sam Houston State University. I teach an online journalism course to undergrads at our main campus in Huntsville, and I’m the faculty adviser for The Houstonian student newspaper. I’m also teaching a graduate-level multimedia journalism course for our brand new digital media master’s program at our Woodlands Center. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in December 2013, and I’m currently finishing my second year at Sam Houston State.
My journalism experience has revolved around the Texas Legislature and rural and suburban community journalism, and I’ve worked as an editor and copy editor in a variety of small newsrooms and research groups. My research focuses on small town and niche news – what I consider the future of newspapers in an increasingly fragmented, localized America.
I’ve historically used this page as a job marketing tool. Now that I’m employed, I’m using the space to promote my work and university, as well as for professional networking. On this site, you’ll find links to my reporting, my research, and highlights from my dissertation, as well as a downloadable CV. My contact information is to the right. So take a look around, and feel free to drop me a line.
